What in the heck is a Loon? We are so glad you asked. Loons are beautiful birds that have webbed feet. This helps them to be excellent swimmers, but unfortunately due to how far back on their body their feet are located, they don’t walk on land very well. In addition, Loons rarely leave the water because of this setback. Loons are mainly fish eaters, because of this they prefer lakes that are clear so they can hunt more efficiently. These birds also swallow small rocks from the bottom of the lake that helps them digest the food they eat. Sadly, they sometimes swallow lead pellets released from fisherman that can eventually kill them.
Why the information about loons? Tenkiller State Park is offering an awesome opportunity to Loon watch throughout the next couple of months with covid guidelines in place. If you would like to learn more about this exciting opportunity you make reservations at 918-489-5025 or email: [email protected].
