We are starting to see cooler weather here in Tahlequah. Here at Tour Tahlequah we obviously love the outdoors. We think about fall and our mind goes to pumpkins, leaves, and colors. There is nothing wrong with that, in fact we love it!  Something else we love is camping!! Camping brings people together and allows time for personal connection.

Some people are outdoor lovers and some are not. This article is for both! We are so lucky to have camping areas and five star resorts so close to us. Lake Tenkiller offers great options with Resorts such as Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast & Beyond. Here you will find cozy cabins with delightful accommodations, and food you will talk about for years!  Campgrounds such as Cherokee Landing State Park offer electric hookups and primitive campsites. You can also camp at one of our many public access sites!

What if you have never been camping but always wanted to go, what do you need? We have put together a list of some camping essentials!

Sleeping Bag

If you have never been camping, and think you can handle the cold, think again! Stay warm with a sleeping bag or regret it in the morning. You will be thanking us when you wake up and your toes aren’t frozen. Plus who doesn't love getting cozy in a sleeping bag?

Tent

Bringing a tent might not be essential. Some people like to rough it, but if there is rain in the forecast or heavy winds you will want to pop that tent up to have some shelter. I myself am guilty of forgetting the tent tarp, and waking up soaking wet. Always check all your equipment before you leave! I know I learned my lesson!

Pocket Knife

A traditional camping activity is whittling a stick to roast your hot dog on. Somehow it makes the hot dog taste better? You also might find the need to cut some rope, or possibly fishing line if you plan on catching dinner! Whatever the case we promise a knife will come in handy.

First Aid  Kit

Camping can take you some pretty interesting places. The woods can produce all kinds of harmful things and accidents happen. In regards to camping, let’s make it a rule. Always bring a first aid kit!

We would love to hear some of the things you like to do when camping! Let us know in the comments below! As always you can find all the information for Tahlequah and it's amazing activities at www.tourtahlequah.com. You can also follow us on social media on Instagram and Facebook!

For the most part, you’ll need these things no matter where you are heading or how long your trip is scheduled to last. Because you’ll use these items on each and every trip, it is always wise to prioritize these things when allotting your camping-gear budget.

These gears are a must-have when you go camping anywhere! Can't go camping without these. Do you think a portable toilet is essential as well?
