5 Campfire Foods For Your Next Family Camping Trip

10/29/2019

There are two types of people in this world. Those who camp during the summer and those who camp during the fall. Some like the heat because it gives them the option to cool off in the river, or lake they might be camping by. Others choose the fall because they can bundle up by the fire and there are fewer bugs ( I am this type.) My whole life it seems like bugs have been out to get me. Sometimes I’ll have dreams about… wait,  never mind. No matter when you like to camp there is one thing we all have in common. Food! Everyone has to eat and camping food is THE BEST. Here we give you five of our favorite camping foods to make on your family outing!

Good Ol' Fashioned Wieners

You drive to your favorite camping spot, set up your tent and make a fire. You have a package of all-beef franks calling your name. You could have brought a pan to boil franks in, possibly an iron rod to roast them on? Hm… not so much, you drove out to your spot to live among the wilderness! You take to the wood to find a perfect roasting stick, once acquired you pull out the trusty pocket knife you’ve had since first grade( we all have one). You then start to whittle the stick to a perfect point. When the supreme point is achieved the next step is to roast the ol' dog. Along with great concentration and patience, you finally reach the optimal roast.

Congrats, you just made the best hot dog you have ever tasted (cries tears of joy).

Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler

Yeah, you already know this is number one on the list. The best peach cobbler I have tasted has been cooked over the crackling coals of a campfire. I picked peach because it’s my favorite, but honestly, you can use any fruit you want! You can make it with only a few ingredients and it tastes so good!

Hobo Dinners

A staple in the camping community. Hobo dinners don’t fall too far from their titles. You just get a bunch of ingredients, doesn’t matter what and throw it in some tinfoil. You then cook it on the fire and check it every so often! Pretty simple but it does the job! You can add seasoning or sauces as you wish, there is only one rule… you must enjoy!

Skillet Breakfast

We covered dessert, dinner and now… breakfast! You will start to notice a trend with these topics, they all use Cast Iron! Pack your cast iron skillet, some eggs, sausage or bacon, and potatoes for a quick throw together breakfast. If you happen to be a cheese lover pack that too!

Bourbon Bacon Marshmallow S’mores

Wait… What? Yes, you read correctly and we aren’t ashamed. We know to some this might sound a little off-putting but don’t knock it until you try it. If you have ever had a bourbon bacon burger than you might be able to envision the power of this treat! If you want to enjoy this while going camping it would take a bit more preparation but it would be worth it.

it would be pretty awesome if you didn't just use my photo without permission or credit. That's my arm up there roasting the wiener.

Camping foods are a great excuse to cook creatively since you're working with limited tools, unpredictable conditions, and fewer ingredients.
