So you have lived in your town for 20 plus years and never been to one of the museums? It's okay i'm guilty as well. Sometimes your just so busy you don't think about it, that's what we are here for! In starting let's understand why museums are even a thing. A museums role is to collect objects and materials of cultural, religious and historical importance, preserve them, research them and present them to the public for the purpose of education and enjoyment. Many people might write them off as boring or uninteresting but I think you might surprise yourself. Here are five reasons you should go to your local museums.
1. Museums grow your knowledge.
You know the old saying "knowledge is power"? It's true... museums carry artifacts and materials that bring history to life. When you visit a museum there are descriptions that go along with the display. Take the time to read and learn about the stories and background of the displays. Some schools are actually using local museums as teaching opportunities which is awesome... after all the main goal is to engage and educate society. You might actually find something interesting! It also makes for a great casual conversation topic!
2. Museums provide inspiration.
Some of us are very technical, by the book people. Others are creative minds who are always innovating. If you have a creative mind visiting a museum might just be what the doctor ordered. It's common for us to get creativity blocked. We have so many things going on in our head that our minds become blank and we get stuck in a rut! Escape to a museum and let the arts and crafts help inspire you to continue creating. Seeing the displays could be the perfect inspiration you need for your next great project.
3. Friends & Family
Everyone has their family traditions. For some it might be a game of football. For others it could be a fun board game. If you are looking for a new tradition, or just want to switch things up for a weekend consider visiting your local museum! Sharing moments with family is something we all cherish so why not do it in a active learning environment? The kids will love watching the interactive videos and seeing all the cool art displays. The best part is they will stay occupied and they will be learning a thing or two in the process!
Come on you know we had to throw this in the mix! Museums are main attractions for tourism. If you are visiting a town that has museums... GO! When you visit a museum, check in, let people know you are there. In doing this you are spreading awareness so that others can experience them too! Many museums are non profit so the way they get their word out is from people visiting and talking about them! Not only will you be supporting the museum but you will be supporting the growth and development of the community that surrounds it. Tourism plays a huge part in a towns economic growth so go visit, and share with others! Spread that awareness!
5. Museums will make you happier
Excuses such as "I don't want to spend the money to go to a museum" or "it's not really worth my time" are yesterdays news! Think about it this way. In this day and age you can visit a museum with a family of 10 for probably less than $50. For that same family eating out might cost $100. The difference aside from cost is that one activity (eating) is material, the other (visiting a museum) is a whole experience. Experiences drive our lives. When we spend more time having experiences, rather than material things our happiness skyrockets. I challenge everyone to have more experiences. Sit back and watch your quality of life improve.
In conclusion, Museums are a great opportunity to learn and obtain rich experiences that you can remember for ever. We would love you to come see our museums and experience the opportunities that Tahlequah has to offer. You can find information on our website www.tourtahlequah.com
